Division flashcards

A little bit of everything and FUN!

Card  Games

With index cards, you can create a set of cards that can be used to have fun and also help your child get his number facts (that is, addition , subtraction, multiplication or division) automated.

Create the set of cards by writing a fact on one card and the answer on another (6 x 8 on one card and 48 on another).  Now with your set of cards there are many games that you can create.

Here are four of my suggestions:

  1. CONCENTRATION

Spread out all the cards face down .  First player chooses a card, eg. 7 x 8.   He then selects a second card.  If it is a match (56), he keeps it and goes again.  If not, he places the cards down again and the second player goes.  When all the cards are taken, the player with the most pairs in the winner.

  1. OLD MAID or LOSER

This is like the old maid game, but you may want to change the name.  You will need one additional card which your child can make that will be the LOSER.  The cards are all dealt out.  Any pairs that a player has are put aside.  Player one picks a card from the other player’s hand.  If it is a match, he pairs it with his card and takes it out of his hand.  Players alternate picking a card from each other’s hand.  The player who ends up with the LOSER card, is the loser.  (A variation is to create a WINNER card, and the player who ends up with that card, wins.)

  1. GO FISH

Deal out 4 cards to each player and put the rest of the deck face down.  Players pull out any pairs.  Player one asks, “Do you 48?”   If the other player has it, he gives it up and the first player has a match.  If he doesn’t have it, he says “go fish”.  The first  player takes the top card from the deck.  The second player asks “Do you have 7×4?”  Players alternate turns until there are no cards left.  The player with the most pairs is the winner.

  1. “WAR”-PEACE

For this game use the deck should only consist of the facts, not the answers.  Each player gets half of the deck.  At the same time, each player turns over his top card.  The player with the greater amount takes in both cards.  This continues.  If both players have the same answer, it is WAR.  Each player counts out three more cards and the fourth card is turned over.  The higher card gets the cards involved in the war.  The person with the most cards when the game is over is the winner.

(variation: this game can also be played with a regular playing deck with jokers and picture cards removed.  Each player pulls out two cards at a time, and the player with the higher sum (or product) gets the cards.
